2009 In Magazine Terms

CLOSING TITLES
Here are some of the magazines that unfortunately ended their printed lives during 2009. We will miss them (or at lest somebody will)
  • Gourmet > my grandmother's gift to her daughters every month (her interpretation of a subscription is buying and giving the monthly issue), most recipes never failed to amuse my palate and were easy to bake. On top of that, I loved to read through it and look at the yummy food pictures. My favorite part was probably the "you asked for it" column.

  • I.D. > I think I bought this magazine only one time, but I am sure artists all over the world will miss it like any college student misses home-cooked meals for creativity in its pages never lacks.

  • Nickelodeon Magazine > when I was little I ached for a magazine like such: filled with comics and posters featuring Nickelodeon characters. Who didn't love watching Tommy escape from his playpen in "Rugrats," or Helga lust over Football Head kid in "Hey Arnold"?

There are other magazines that closed this year including Modern Bride, Vibe, Time: Style and Design, Best Life and Country Home.

REMAINING FAVES
These magazines have remained over the years and hopefully they will for many decades to come.
  • Glamour > first published in 1939, this women's magazine is now printed all over the world in several languages with articles ranging from how to cook a meal to coping with life in various situations. Its sections include fashion, health, body, etc. and that is why it has reached the top of my personal magazine list.

  • Teen Vogue > my second personal favorite is Vogue's little sister. Despite the fact that I am 20 years old, I still passionately enjoy reading through this teen fashion magazine. Its articles are simple but informative, and the pocket-sized format is very cute.

  • Martha Stewart Living > I love flipping through the pages of this creative publication because its makes me feel (for about 5 minutes) like I will someday have a dinner party as pretty and organized as the ones portrayed, or bake a batch of cookies that look just like the ones Martha bakes (I already tried baking some cookies, and even though they weren't ugly or yucky, they didn't completely resemble hers).
  • The Economist > I started reading this magazine first semester of college as a recommended assignment for my International Relations class, but with every issue, I started getting more and more interested in what the articles had to say about world affairs. It is definitely a magazine to read when you have time to spare, since it does require a lot of reading, but it is definitely worth the effort.
I'm sure there are many other magazines that I am yet to develop an intense liking for (since already almost every magazine placed upon me entertains me for a while for the simple fact of being a magazine), but for last year these were more than enough.

Celebrity-watching in Aspen

I have been in Aspen for 2 days, and I an very excited to hear that many celebrities are spending their winter holidays here as well. Don't get me wrong, I'm not the kind of person that stands outside a hotel waiting for any famous person to come out. However, I also don't mind running into one or two celebrities while walking in town (something I do quite a lot while staying in Aspen).
So today, coming home from skiing, my sister and I decided to walk past the Little Nell (a celebrity-liked hotel). Little did we know (although we were trying to find some famous person) that we would run into Lori Loughlin.
I will keep posting any sightings - if there are any more.

Merry Christmas!

Christmas eve in Mexico City is the time to mingle with your family, eat loads of food, and drink much too sweet "ponche". The menu at my family's get-together (dad's side) resembles that of a thanksgiving dinner party. Turkey, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, salad, gravy, and the most important: stuffing. Then of course, the punch, wine, champagne, bread rolls, profiteroles and chocolate cake are never missing. After dinner, we all proceed to the pinata, and then presents (which may or may not be done beforehand)
Christmas day however, is quite different. My grandmother (mom's mother) cooks a very yummy ham, focaccia, and chestnut puree. My aunt then brings an pair of delicious deserts acompanied byt tea and coffee.
Will post pictures once my computer lets me upload them (its acting kinda crazy)

Happy Birthday to me (early)

So my 20th birthday is tomorrow! It will be a HECTIC day: final exam, packing, party, plane trip home at 7 am on Saturday.
Anyways, I shall post some pictures of previous stages of my almost double decade life!
Before I start with incredible experiences in my life, here are some general pictures from when I was not so old! (hehe). Hope you guys enjoy!

And now for the more recent pictures:
Family Trip > oh don't we look just gorgeous?

Christmas Dinner > Ho Ho Ho. Wearing santa hats had never been so much fun.

18th Birthday > you only turn 18 once! (and it is the legal age in Mexico). If you want to go all out: that night is the night (even though it wasn't on my actual birthday, it was very much worth the wait.

InFashion > my modeling days are probably over, but I definitely enjoyed them!

19th Birthday > got a black leather jacket (as can be seen) and some lovely roses! Party started at home, but why not keep it going for a bit ...
Senior Trip > think boat, music, fresca (?), beaches, rotating clubs... and a soon graduating senior class.
High-school Graduation Party > what can you add to a great dinner with friends and family all decked up in elegant attire? a large after-party with even more friends (and new acquaintances!) with kick-ass music and dancing 'til we dropped!

Holiday Wishlist

I thought it would be appropriate to post a list of the gifts I would love to receive this holiday season (lets hope I get one of them at the very least!).
  • Longchamp Le Pliage (1899089) Bag in Bilberry (although this color might be discontinued) > lets face it, when you need to carry books around, you need a sturdy bag that goes with everything. Cue the Longchamp long-strapped tote.
  • Nikon Cool-Pix S640 Camera > fast shutter speed; start up time is very quick. That is what I probably want the most. I hate having to wait for a while after taking a picture in order to take another one. (also I must confess that Ashton being in the Nikon commercials makes these cameras even more appealing!)
  • Urban Outfitters Gift Card > lets face it: gift cards are always great. Nobody stresses out over whether or not you are going to like the present, and you don't have to pretend to like it and wear it sometimes just to prove you didn't exchange it.

  • Dolce Vita Leather Over-the-knee Boot > I have been looking for boots like a crazy person (since Boston in the winter will indeed require them). Although I have found it hard to stop myself from always wanting more, I still don't have any over-the-knee black boots.

  • BB Dakota Fur Vest > bring on the winter and the furry (faux) items! I am loving these types of vests, but its hard to find a nice one.
  • Bodycology Vanilla Cupcake Hand & Body Lotion > with the dry weather here in Boston, I need to keep reapplying lotion so that my hands don't become crocodile-ish. This seems like it smells delicious, and will make my skin smell yummy all the time.

RL Boots

Quick post on my new Ralph Lauren boots. Lets say that they are a present to myself for getting a job in Boston! Ceri boutique on Newbury St. is where you'll see me work for the next 30 days (and hopefully longer if the trial goes well!)
Here are pics of my boots, outfit and current work location! yay!

Upcoming Movies

You should know that I hate going to the movies. I hate sitting in uncomfortable movie theaters for long periods of time with the occasional smelly hot-dog guy sitting near me. Even if the theatre was all for myself, I still wouldn't like it though, I prefer to sacrifice the big screen, and watch the movie at home. Still, sometimes I do enjoy going out to the movies, spending some time with friends and such. So that said, here are four movies that I want to see (not necessarily in theaters).

1. Everybody's Fine >
Drew Barrymore, Robert DeNiro, Kate Beckinsale, Sam Rockwell.
Comedy about a dad visiting his 3 kids bc they can't come home during their usual holiday
weekend.
Favorite trailer part:
- Prostitute: "Do you want to see my legs?"
- DeNiro: "Do you want to see mine?"
Release date: December 4, 2009

2. Up in the Air > George Clooney, Vera Farmigan, Anna Kendrick, Jason Bateman, Danny McBride.
Clooney works as the person who fires people from other
companies. He travels a lot, and he has to teach a new employee the tips and perks of tra
veling frequently.
Favorite trailer part:
- Clooney: "Bingo. Asians, they pack light, travel efficiently, and they have a thing for slip-on shoes. God love 'em." (advicing her to stand behind them in the airport security line)
- Anna Kendrick: "Thast's racist."
- Clooney: "I'm like my mother, I stereotype. It's faster."
Release date: December 4, 2009

3. It's Complicated > Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin, Steve Martin, Zoe Kazan and Lake Bell.
Jane and Jake are divorced. They start having and affair. Adam, Jane's architect also plays a role in Jane's life.
Favorite trailer part:
- Streep: "Jo you are so lucky Jerry is dead."
- "Jo": "Thank you."
- Streep: "Yo don't have to bump into him!"
Release date: December 25, 2009

4. Nine > Daniel Day-Lewis, Sophia Loren, Kate Hudson, Nicole Kidman, Judi Dench, Marion Cotillard, Fergie, Penelope Cruz, Judi Dench.
Portrays film director Guido Contini's life and struggle to keep balance between his job and the women in his life.
Favorite trailer part:
- Dench: "Directing amovie is a very over-rated job. We all know it. You just have to say 'ye
s and no', what else do you do? Nothing. 'Maestro should this be red? Yes. Green? No. More extras? Yes. More lipstick? No.' Yes. No. Yes. No. That's directing."
Release date: December 25, 2009

starred for life

So this past spring I became obsessed with having a star tattoo on my left wrist. I don't really remember why it all started (I actually didn't know about these celebrities having theirs) but during senior trip my friends and I started a craze amongst our classmates. Anyways what has been on my mind since then is: should I get it permanently?Probably not. I do not want to be "starred for life" and since I bought henna over the summer, I can reapply it as necessary.
So here's a pic of my current tattoo and some of celebrities who are apparently my tattoo twins (except theirs are real tattoos).

nails nails nails

I'm obsessed with OPI and their creatively named nail polishes. I was looking on their website and found colors that I wish I had for this winter...
I do have one though, think you might guess it?

- Light My Sapphire
- Here Today ... Aragon Tomorrow

- Midnight Moscow
- Black Cherry Chutney
- Yoga-ta Get This Blue
- Conga-line Coral (if you're going to the beach for x-mass break take this one with you definitely)

Back to basics

I will once again attempt to jump-start my blogging skills and actually keep up with my blog. I've realized that I don't post often since I don't really know what to write about. That said I am going to make an effort to write about something. Still deciding whether I should have a theme or not. I think not. I'll write about everything. Ok so lets start!
I will start by posting outfits that I have created that i like (although since I don't have my camera bc I lost it, the pics will have to be photobooth for now)

<3 Greek

Firstly I should tell you that I love Greek! Its one of my favorite TV shows (even more because they put up new episodes the same night they air!). Now that thats clear, I have to say I do hate the fact that their seasons are so short (or at least they seem like it). I love crawling into my bed and watching the most recent episode, but now I have to wait until the end of January! That is more than 2 months away!

Anyways, I saw this season's finale yesterday and I fell in love with the show even more (if thats even possible). I love Cappie and Evan, and I wish I had Rusty for a little brother. Sometimes I even wish I belonged to Zeta Beta Zeta (as crazy and obsessive that may sound).

Here are some of my favorite Greek moments:

  • Cappie and Casey get back together. (Season 3 Episode 9) > after many episodes of struggling to tell each other that they are still in love with each other, they finally accept it. So romantic! (even though it probably is the complete opposite, but who cares). *note: this is not a picture from the scene I am referring to, but it captures some of the point.
  • Zeta Beta "Good Girls Gone Bad" Dance (Season 3 Episode 9) > its a fun dance to watch... gets you in the mood to dance with them! Very very good song; actually reminds me of my sister (and come on, who doesn't want to see the Gamma Sis get their butts kicked lol! even if they won)!
  • Spitter gets his nickname (Season 1 Episode 1)> very funny attempt at doing a tequila shot lands Rusty the "Spitter" nickname. This scene is hilarious mostly because I could actually picture a nerdy guy doing the exact same thing. I still find Rusty very cute tough. [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBLRAYLzge4]
  • Season 1 Episode 15 > the whole episode is amazing! Interesting to see how the whole thing started, bringing the past out (mixed with the current events). Also it got me thinking about what will happen during my college years. How will my relationships play out? (feeling nostalgic much?). Complete with a "Grey's Anatomy" scene, Cappie and Evan as roommates, Ashley's jumpy personality when meeting Casey and Frannie as the ultimate "sorority queen".

These are my favorite moments for now, I will be posting more afterwards!

2.11.09

It's been a while since my last post, but I have not been very motivated due to the lack of viewers (I hope I get some viewers soon!) Anyways, yesterday was Halloween (which makes tomorrow Dia de los Muertos in Mexico!) and I went to a very fun party. Thought should share some good costumes I saw, and show pictures!
1. Sexy Mr. Peanut > ok I hate the whole Halloween sexy cliche thing, but it is obviously a must for some people. Very creative costume made up of a short yellow dress with black peanut-texture decorations, a monocle (one side of actual glasses without the shade), a "mr. peanut" hat and an umbrella as a cane.
Mr. Peanut

2. Ostrich Rider > I am really not that into completely bought costumes but this one was very funny. It was just an inflatable costume resembling a person riding "Olly" the Ostrich.

ostrich

3. Three-hole punch > I have to confess at first I didn't even realize the guy was wearing a costume, but after over hearing him I found it creative, very simple (three black circles pasted onto his clothes), but creative.

3-hole

4. Carrot (as egoistical as it may sound... I am very creative!) > I was very excited to be a carrot this year (even if it meant having to tell people what I was since many guessed completely wrong or just stayed quiet) because it was an easy and comfortable costume, but still very original. You should know, I am all for making your own costume, that includes asking somebody else to sow it for you (as long as you don't buy a bag that has your whole costume inside it!)

5. Ipod Commercial > this I didn't see yesterday, in fact I haven't actually seen it in person yet. My cousin dressed up as an Ipod Commercial wearing all black and sticking a piece of neon colored cardboard paper on his back. I thought it was insanely creative and way out of anybody else's league (hence the blog mention!)
